Frequently Asked Questions

How does the uridan water-free urinal work?
The urinal is designed with a built-in waste trap. A scented, biodegradable, fully refined vegetable oil, floats on top of the urine in the waste trap. The oil forms a liquid seal, preventing urine smells from being released into the air. As the urine drains through the holes in the stainless steel cover, it passes through the oil and out of the waste pipe. In effect the waste trap acts as an “S bend”.

Will the urinal smell if you don’t use water?
No, it will not smell. The urinal is designed with smooth surfaces, with no flushing rims where urine can gather. The cleaning process removes any dried urine in the bowl and the sides of the urinal. The smell normally associated with urinals is caused by the combination of water and urine mixing. No water – no smell!

How do you clean the urinal?
uridan water-free urinals are very simple and quick to clean. The Cleaner uses an anti-bacterial spray for cleaning. A few sprays are directed into the bowl and outer surfaces of the urinal. Using a soft brush, the urinal is cleaned around the waste cover and all surfaces. A disposable paper towel or soft cloth is then used to wipe off the spray.

How often do you change the URILOCK fluid?
The URILOCK fluid should be replaced approximately every 6,000 uses. Over this period of time the urine in the waste trap will begin to thicken. This is quite normal and means that the urine will take longer to drain through the stainless steel waste cover. As this happens the urine will begin to force the URILOCK fluid up through the drain holes of the waste cover. This is the signal that it’s time to change the URILOCK liquid. In practical terms the URILOCK blocking liquid requires changing between 2 and 4 times per year. Changing the URILOCK is a simple maintenance task and takes a few minutes.

Are they expensive?
When comparing the purchase and installation costs of a uridan water-free urinal with a conventional flushing system, there is a saving of approximately 50%. For installations in new buildings there is no requirement for water pipes, flushing valves, cisterns, sensors etc, just a standard 50mm waste pipe.
